Celebrating Christ at Work: Jobs in Christian Ministry

Even those with jobs in Christian workplaces struggle with getting up and going to work every day. With so many obstacles facing Christianity and the economy today, stresses and frustrations may take their toll on a person’s attitude. This article is designed to help encourage you in certain aspects of your jobs in Christian environments and to help you to triumph over any feelings, tasks, or persons that you feel may be limiting your potential to shine your light for Jesus.

Often times, Christians feel that God knows their hearts already, so there is no need to speak with Him about their issues and concerns. However, this is not the case. The Bible says, in I Thessalonians 5:17 to “Pray without ceasing.” By bringing your concerns to God about your jobs in Christian service, people you come in contact with, outside personal stresses, or everyday discouragements, you will have opened the door for Him to bless your life and make the most out every circumstance. Be intentional everyday about "ASKing for God’s blessings. Open your heart and your mouth always and let God help you deal with your day.  Just the act of telling it to God will often calm your nerves and bring peace that that passes all understanding.

After you have given your cares over to the Lord, then it's time to leave them there.  Let God handle that situation.  Let Him work it out for your good.  I remember a time when I worked at an office.  The supervisor was overbearing and verbally harsh.  He got on my last nerve.  But, rather than get upset and push back, I decided to pray and ask God to help me deal with it.

God is so faithful!  Instead of helping me to deal with it, He worked on the supervisor's heart and the next day I got an apology and assurances that things would be different.  And they were.  All glory and honor goes to God!  Even though we have higher expectations for those who work in jobs in Christian ministry, I'm constantly astonished and amazed by the results when I simply become a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.

Following basic Christian principles, you will troubleshoot negativity and find the right attitude to be an example for others, encourage others, and share the love of Christ!  According to Romans 8:37 “…in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”  Jobs in Christian ministry are by nature more satisfying and gratifying than any other type of job, including non-profit work, because we know that God adds His power to all that we do.
